Materials used in Mummification and their use
Alum- They don't know what it was used for specifically.
Bitumen- This was used to cover their ears, eyes, nose and mouth.
Cassia- They would use this to flavor and perfume materials.
Cinnamon- Cinnamon would be used for the same thing as Cassia.
Cedar Oil- Some people say this was used for injecting. Another use was to
anoint them.
Henna- These flowers were used to perfume ointment.
Honey- They says that there sometimes it is found inside the skull were two jars in Tutankhamen’s tomb that was labelled
honey but there was no honey in them.
Juniper Berries- These berries were found on the body and in the tomb.
Lichen- This was found in the abdomen and packed with dried Lichen.
Natron- the Natron was found in cases and jars in tombs, in packages in tombs, in pits with refuse embalming materials, encrusted in wooden embalming tables, and on certain mummies.
Ointments- Ointments are used for anointing the body with fragrant gum-resins,different oils and fats as a religious ceremony between the end and the beginning.
Onions- These are found in the bandages and coffins. They would sometimes use the onions to cover the dead people’s eyes.
Paint- the Egyptians use black, blue, brown, grey, green, orange, pink, red, white, and yellow for painting. The paints could be applied to stone, wood and papyrus rolls. This type of paint is called tempera.
Palm Wine- This is used for cleaning the cavities and viscera.
Resin- the resin was put inside the graves.
True Resins- The true resins were obtained from the eastern Mediterranean.
Sawdust- Sawdust has also been found in body cavities, canopy jars, and other tomb packages.
